Skating For Katelyn

As you may have heard, Austin Peay State University alumnus Katelyn Lister Bryant recently was diagnosed with Stage 4 “Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma” cancer. She was affiliated with the Sigma Kappa chapter of Chi Omega at APSU during her time as an undergraduate student. Her brother, Jonathan Lister, was a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon and served a term as President of our organization. During this time, as you can imagine, the medical bills and payments will be astronomical for her treatments. We’re trying to put something together this semester so we can help their family with expenses out as much as possible.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, we are having an event at Rainbow Skating Rink from 7-9 pm. Brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon are selling Livestrong style bracelets as tickets for $5 a piece. If your organization would like to participate in this fundraising, feel free to acquire about getting tickets. We would love each of your organizations to buy at least 5 tickets! If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, they are $10 and we will have a limited number of those available at the event.

We hope to see all of you there to support such a great cause!

Seuss for Schools Donation

On Thursday, December 13, 2012, brothers in Sigma Phi Epsilon got the opportunity to spread a little more holiday cheer to the city of Clarksville. In the past few years, our chapter has collected books for our annual philanthropy, “Seuss for Schools”. We were able to donate about 300 books to Byrns Darden Elementary School this year. We were happy to be able to give the gift of a Dr. Seuss book to every kindergartner, first grader and second grader in the school. Principal Andy Lyons was fully supportive of the idea and organized the event for us. He said the teachers were especially appreciative and the kids were going to love learning to read some of those books. Some of the young students even said it was their first book they have ever received!

SigEp is always looking for good opportunities to serve in the community. We are happy to be able to help in any small way that we could. We understand that such a small gift can create a huge impact in a young child’s life. We look forward to continuing with this tradition and hopefully donating books to more schools across Montgomery County.

Toys for Tots Mixer

On Monday, December 3rd, Chi Omega and Sigma Phi Epsilon hosted a “Tacky Christmas Mixer”. The mixer was complete with cookie decorating, Christmas trivia and holiday themed games. Prizes were given for the tackiest sweaters and Christmas music filled the air the entire evening.

The best part about this fun event is that it was about much more than having fun! We also wanted to benefit a neutral philanthropy, Toys for Tots. To be admitted, every person was required to bring a small unwrapped toy. These toys have since been distributed to kids in a greater need than ourselves. We are so happy to be able to help a great cause while having a wonderful time with Chi Omega. We look forward to many more mixers like this one in years to come!

“You Are Always Wearing Your Letters”

A small group of men in our chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon helped put together a video. It was our own rendition of T.J. Sullivan’s “You Are Always Wearing Your Letters” speech. With pictures and music, the video greatly represents what our fraternity is founded upon and believes in.

SigEp Sponsors PeeWee Football Team

Sigma Phi Epsilon – TN Eta Chapter had the privilege of sponsoring a local PeeWee football team this year! In our first year of sponsoring this team, brothers Trevor Brand, Austin Mathis, Drew Smith, and Chris Tablack helped coach this team. The Ravens were previously sponsored by another individual who deployed shortly before the season began and Sigma Phi Epsilon stepped in to make sure these kids’ dreams of playing football game true.

This is an awesome opportunity for our fraternity and our community. We’re thankful for this chance and look forward to a growing relationship many years to come!

Alumni / Undergrad Poker Tournament

We recently hosted our annual alumni / undergraduate poker tournament at the SigEp house. This is a great way to maintain strong alumni relations and continue to raise money for the general house fund. Around 30 people participated in this event and we raised around $100 towards buying cleaning supplies, toiletries and other various accessories around the house.

Campus Leadership: SGA

Two brothers are set to serve next year on the Student Government Association Executive Committee. Mike Rainier ran unopposed for the Vice President position and Jawaun Rogers was interviewed and selected to serve as the Chief Justice over the judicial branch in SGA.

Several senators were elected as well – including brother Ben Sterling.

Brothers Joseph Marler and Zac Gillman will serve on Tribunal for the next two semesters.

SigEp Wins Greek Cup

University Recreation recently announced that Sigma Phi Epsilon has won the Governor’s “Greek” Cup for Intramural Sports at Austin Peay State University. All year, fraternities compete in every intramural sport for participation, winning, and sportsmanship points. SigEp finished off the season with a “Mercy Rule” win against Alpha Tau Omega in outdoor soccer to win that championship. SigEp also won a 6-9 thriller against Kappa Alpha in indoor soccer to win that championship too.
